Defender_2017

About seven years ago in the wake of the devastation being faced by the Earthquake in Haiti I wrote a song called “Defender (Call Upon The Name)”.  Leading that song in Haiti while on a missions trip after the earthquake was one of the most profound worship experiences I have ever experienced.

Recently, the US has been afflicted by hurricanes Harvey and Irma which have decimated parts of the country and brought about calamity that has displaced and devastated families.  Wanting to encourage those who have been effected by these storms I wanted to re-record “Defender”.

Working with producer Brandon Sharp, we chose to do a radical ‘left turn’ with this song to breathe new life into the song and have it realized in a completely different way than the original choir-led recording.  I am thrilled that recording artist Brooke Voland cut this demo.

Psalm 34:18 says that God is close to the broken hearted.  It is my prayer that as you listen or re-listen to “Defender_2017” that your heart would be encouraged, lifted and reminded that He is King over the flood (Psalm 29:10).

You can listen to and download “Defender_2017” for free below.  If you’d like to use this song in your church, click here to download the chart and stems for free as well.
